50 Reasons to Eat & Grow Local Food
Reason #35:
Eating and growing local food makes us better appreciate the foods that we actually can easily grow in our region, to find alternatives to non-local foods (eg. local Stevia and honey replaces sugar), as well as planning ahead by:
- building greenhouses
- planting against a dark wall
- planting under a home’s eaves
- mapping out our land to ensure we’re planting heat-seeking plants where there is the most heat and access to sunlight… etc.
We can adapt to be able to grow limited quantities of food that is not suited to our climate, like basil, peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, lemons… while recognizing our limits.
